I am Director of the MenAlive, a health program that helps men live long and well. Though focused on men's health, MenAlive is also for women who care about the health of the men in their lives.
Since its inception in 1992, I have been on the Board of Advisors of the Men's Health Network. I am also a member of the International Society for the Study of the Aging Male and serve as a member of the International Scientific Board of the World Congress on Men's Health.
I have been a licensed psychotherapist for over 43 years and am the author of seven books including the international best-selling Male Menopause that has thus far been translated into 25 foreign languages and my most recent book The Irritable Male Syndrome: Managing the 4 Key Causes of Depression and Aggression.
I have also written nine booklets, produced 10 audio cassette programs, and a video program for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).
I have taught classes at U.C. Berkeley, U.C.L.A., J.F.K. University, Esalen Institute, The Omega Institute, and other centers of education throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe.
My Ph.D. is in International Health. My dissertation on Gender and Depression breaks new ground in better understanding the different ways men and women deal with life's stresses.
I live with my wife, Carlin, on Shimmins Ridge, above Bloody Run Creek, in Northern California. We are proud parents of five grown children and ten grandchildren.
